50th Reunion Event!
On July 12, we held a virtual celebration of the 50th anniversary of George McGovern receiving the Democratic nomination for President, and of his 100th birthday. The celebration combined a planned program with special guests and remembrances with four sets of breakout rooms to say hello to old friends and make new ones in small groups. More than 125 McGovernites participated. We wanted to share our evening with you.
We heard from the McGovern family, Gary Hart, two offspring of lead campaigners, and Chairman Jim McGovern (Chairman of the House Rules Committee). Peter Yarrow spoke from his heart and played “Blowin’ in the Wind” for us. (That alone makes watching this show worthwhile!)
Our good friends at Ward Circle Strategies put together a wonderful kick off collage of photos from campaign photographers Keith Wessel, Stuart Bratesman, and Diana Mara Henry, as well as a fine tribute to many of our friends who are deceased, and clips from the Convention floor and acceptance speech.
